Day-to-day
management of the foundation is handled by a small staff headquartered
at 480 East Bay St. Suite F. The staff raises revenues
for the foundation, supports the ship,
fosters positive media relations and coverage, and coordinates
shipboard educational programs and at-sea expeditions.

The foundation also has a host of volunteers who have donated
countless hours to making the Spirit of South Carolina a
reality. Thank you to our volunteers.

The South Carolina Maritime Foundation’s
Board of Directors is composed of 13 civic and business
leaders who set policy and actively oversee the operation
of the foundation. The Board is chaired by R.E. "Teddy" Turner, IV, faculty member at Charleston Collegiate School.

The South Carolina Maritime Foundation is incorporated
in the State of South Carolina as a nonprofit, 501(c) 3 organization.
The Board of Directors governs the organization, with guidance
from a multi-disciplined Board of Advisors from relevant fields
of education, science, business and maritime history. A volunteer
education committee has been recruited to guide the process of
researching, writing, funding and developing educational projects
using the Spirit of South Carolina as a centerpiece of
learning.
